Biological function

IL22 is an IL-10-family cytokine produced by several lymphoid populations. It acts primarily on non-haematopoietic epithelial and stromal cells through IL22RA1/IL10RB receptor complexes and contributes to barrier defence, antimicrobial responses, tissue repair and inflammatory signalling.

Research context

IL22 is widely studied in mucosal and epithelial immunity, host defence, tissue repair, inflammation and skin or intestinal models. Reagent selection should consider species, tissue context, sample type, assay format, application and supporting validation.
