Biological function

AURKB is a serine/threonine kinase within the chromosomal passenger complex. It regulates chromosome alignment and segregation, kinetochore-microtubule attachment, spindle organisation and the onset and completion of cytokinesis. AURKB phosphorylates chromosomal-passenger-complex components and multiple mitotic substrates, and participates in the abscission checkpoint that prevents premature cytokinetic separation when chromosome bridges persist.
