AGER/RAGE is an immunoglobulin-superfamily pattern-recognition receptor that binds multiple structurally diverse ligands, including advanced glycation end products, S100 proteins and HMGB1. Ligand engagement activates intracellular signalling programmes that can include NF-kappa-B and other inflammatory pathways, allowing cells to respond to tissue stress and damage-associated signals.
AGER is studied in inflammatory signalling, metabolic and vascular stress, innate immune responses and tissue-injury models. RAGE biology is especially relevant where advanced glycation end products or other stress-associated ligands accumulate. Experimental interpretation should distinguish receptor abundance from ligand exposure and signalling state, and reagent choice should be matched to species, sample type, assay format and product-level validation.
